TORRES ELEMENTARY TEMPORARILY TRANSITIONED TO REMOTE LEARNING

The staff COVID-related absentee rate at Torres Elementary has reached 20%. Currently, there is
one COVID-positive staff member and six staff members required to quarantine. Effective Monday,
November 9, 2020, students will move to remote-only learning for two weeks (14 days) to reduce
the possibility of spread of the virus. In-person instruction is expected to resume on campus
Monday, November 30, 2020.

All other schools will continue to attend class on campus at this time.

Our team worked very hard last spring and summer to enhance our online teaching and learning
strategies in preparation for future remote learning opportunities for our students. Devices and
hotspots will be available for all students to have continued access to technology and the internet.
Victoria ISD will have three sites for parents to utilize for drive-up meal pick up while students are
learning remotely: Crain, Chandler, and O’Connor.

As more COVID-19 cases are being confirmed across the state, please remain vigilant. Monitor
yourself and your family for symptoms of COVID-19.

Any of the following symptoms indicate a possible COVID-19 infection:

• Temperature of 100.0 degrees Fahrenheit or higher when taken by mouth;
• Sore throat;
• New uncontrolled cough causing difficulty breathing (or, for students with a chronic
allergic/asthmatic cough, a change in their cough from baseline);
• Diarrhea, vomiting, or abdominal pain; or
• New onset of severe headache, especially with a fever.

Our students' and staffs' safety and health remain the district's primary responsibility. We
understand this sudden transition will be inconvenient and your child will miss being in school;
however, we greatly appreciate your families' flexibility, patience, and support. We are optimistic
that the following mitigation protocols will help increase students' probability of having a safe and
productive school year.
