students with teacher in classroom

Victoria ISD is preparing students for the next step in their academic journey through upcoming course selection presentations. These sessions are designed to help students and families understand available academic options and make informed decisions for the 2026-27 school year.

Course selection is an important milestone, especially for students transitioning from elementary to middle school and from middle school to high school. Students will hear about a wide range of academic programs, electives, and enrichment opportunities. Families are encouraged to review this information together and have meaningful conversations about interests, strengths, and future goals.

Course selection helps students map out their educational path by introducing them to core classes, electives, and specialized opportunities. Counselors guide students through available options and explain how early decisions can shape future academic experiences during individual advising sessions.

Current 6th and 7th Graders

Course selection presentations for current 6th and 7th-graders will take place in January and February. These sessions introduce students to grade-level academic and elective options while highlighting opportunities in fine arts, athletics, extracurricular activities, and advanced coursework such as Honors and accelerated pathways. Students will learn how their middle school choices help build a strong foundation for success in high school.

Current 9th Through 11th Graders

Course selection presentations for current high school students will take place during January and February, based on grade level. These sessions focus on graduation requirements, advanced academic opportunities, including Dual Credit and Advanced Placement, elective courses, career pathways, and specialized programs such as P-TECH. Students will also learn how to align their academic plans with post-secondary goals, whether college, career, or military service.

Fifth Grade Transition Experience

Current 5th-grade students will participate in a middle school transition experience during January and February. As part of this process, students will visit their future middle school campus for a course selection presentation and learn about athletics, fine arts, and other course options available at the middle school level.

In addition, 5th-grade students will meet individually with middle school counselors during February for one-on-one advising. These conversations help students begin thinking about their interests and strengths as they prepare for middle school.

Eighth Grade Course Selection

Current 8th-grade students will participate in course selection presentations during February as they prepare for the transition to high school. These sessions introduce graduation requirements, endorsement pathways, electives, and advanced academic opportunities available at the high school level.

Following course selection presentations, students will receive access to SchooLinks to review options with their parents or guardians. Families are encouraged to talk with their child about interests, workload, and long-term goals before finalizing course selections with school counselors.

Parents can also visit the Victoria ISD Course Selection webpage for helpful resources, including the Course Selection Guide, graduation requirements, extracurricular opportunities, and key reminders.
