Victoria ISD announces the opening for the District Two School Board Member seat following the resignation of Dr. Estella De Los Santos. The decision to accept Dr. De Los Santos' resignation and appoint a person to fill the vacancy was made during the special called board meeting held on July 5, 2023. The board of trustees voted with a 5-0 decision, to proceed with the appointment process.

As the District Two School Board Member seat becomes vacant, the VISD Board of Trustees is committed to finding a highly qualified individual who shares the same passion and commitment to providing exceptional education for our students” said Board President Mike Mercer. “The appointment process will ensure a smooth transition, enabling the newly appointed member to contribute effectively to advancing our educational goals.”
The VISD Board of Trustees invites interested and eligible individuals residing within District Two to submit their applications for consideration. The application will open at noon on Thursday, July 6, 2023, and the deadline for application submission is Thursday, July 20, 2023, at noon.
Applicants are required to meet the following eligibility criteria:
Be a United States citizen.
Be 18 years of age or older on the first day of the term to be filled at the election or on the date of appointment, as applicable.
Have not been determined by a final judgment of a court exercising probate, jurisdiction to be totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.
Have not been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities
Have resided continuously in the state for 12 months and in the territory from which the office is elected for six months immediately preceding the following date:
For an appointee to an office, the date the appointment is made,
Be registered to vote in the territory from which the office is elected on the date described at item 5, above.
To apply for the District 2 School Board Member seat, interested individuals can obtain the application form from the Victoria ISD website at www.visd.net/boardelections. The VISD Board of Trustees will carefully review all applications and appoint a District Two trustee at the Special Called Board Meeting on Tuesday, July 25.
