Victoria ISD will host its annual “Learn to Earn” tours in late January, providing all VISD 8th-grade students with an up-close look at Career and Technical Education programs before they select their high school courses. The tours will take place at the VISD Career & Technical Education Center.
The Learn to Earn Tours are designed to help students make informed decisions about their high school pathways by exposing them to real CTE classrooms, projects, and certifications. During the visits, students rotate through demonstrations representing the 11 Career Clusters available to them in high school.
“The Learn to Earn Tours give students a chance to explore what their future could look like,” said Dena Justice, CTE Director. “By seeing the programs in action, students can better understand their interests and the opportunities available to them in high school and beyond.”
Each rotation features teachers and current CTE students who share information about hands-on learning, certifications, and career pathways in areas such as engineering, healthcare, agriculture, technology, public service, and business. The tours are held before students complete their 9th-grade course selection, allowing them to connect their interests with programs of study.
Campuses will share additional campus-specific details with families ahead of the tours.
The Learn to Earn initiative has become a key piece of VISD’s effort to help students build a strong foundation for college, industry-based certifications, and careers as early as their freshman year.
To help families continue the conversation at home, VISD Communications has launched a new video series featuring each CTE Program of Study. Click HERE to watch the CTE Program of Study videos.
